PARADE WORKS MAGIC FOR WESTMINSTER CHARITY
‘Les Miserables’ Cheers Lord Mayor
The Lord Mayor of Westminster’s official charity – The Sir Simon Milton Foundation – has received a substantial cash boost thanks to the organisers of London’s New Year’s Day Parade.
LNYDP Executive Director Bob Bone, presented the Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor The Lady Flight, a cheque for £31,000 at a ceremony in the Mayor’s Parlour.
Among those present were councillors, council officials and pupils of the Sylvia Young Theatre School that performed in Westminster’s third placed entry on January 1st – which celebrated the 30th Anniversary of West End musical Les Miserables.
The parade, which was screened live around the World, drew more than 500,000 people on to the streets and a TV audience of tens of millions, was also celebrating 30 ‘Magical Years’.
Bob Bone, who presented medals to all participants, praised the City for hosting such a successful event and creating the entry, which caught the judging panel’s eye.
“We gave the World a window to see the City of Westminster in all its glory – and you did yourselves proud.” Said Bob.
“I am delighted to honour your effort and achievement and make this donation to such a worthwhile cause.”
